Best Hikes to Kessellöcher at Schwarzwasserbach

Tips

  • The cauldron holes are the result of years of grinding the water masses on the stone. Then as now, you can find relaxation and untouched nature here.

  • The Schwarzwasserbach is THE canyon in the Kleinwalsertal and is also feasible for sporty beginners, since sections can be bypassed, but is more recommended for real adrenaline junkies.
The Schwarzwasserbach is a geological peculiarity: located in the karst area of the Ifen, it is partly fed by underground springs from a gigantic cave system known as the "Hell Hole". At the natural bridge at the end of the canyoning tour, we can get an idea of the Swiss cheese that lies beneath our feet...
The tour starts with an abseiling point from about five meters high, which can also be jumped by wild dogs - from a narrow ledge into a narrow pot!
Immediately afterwards, a significantly higher and very exposed abseiling point (approx. 18m) demands the courage of the participants. Arriving at the bottom, we are in one of the most beautiful sections of the tour: in a deeply cut passage, we pass under a boulder jammed between the walls.
Another short walk and a small jump, we are already through the upper Schwarzwasserbach and are heading back to the hiking trail that runs along the edge of the gorge.
The middle part has jumps, slides and the highest rappel on the tour - or is it the highest at all? After overcoming the exposed abseiling point of the upper part, we can almost laugh about this waterfall...
For the last part of the Schwarzwasserbach we could also leave the rope on the car, because now we only have to jump. The big highlight comes at the very end, when we jump into the large pool under the natural bridge from all sides and from all heights. Of course, the same applies here: everything is voluntary, but don't overestimate yourself, with jumps of up to 13 meters in height...
