    Zurich main station

Zurich main station (Zürich HB for short, also Zurich main station, until 1893 Zurich station) in Zurich is the largest station in Switzerland. It is an important railway junction for trains from home and abroad. With an average of 461,000 passengers on working days (as of 2019) and around 3,000 train journeys per day, it is the busiest station on the Swiss Federal Railways network, and it is also one of the busiest stations in Europe.

The main train station is north of the old town. It has a total of 26 tracks for passenger traffic in four separate stations. The above-ground terminal station is mainly used for long-distance traffic. The underground stations Museumstrasse on the north and Löwenstrasse on the south side are designed as through stations. The former is used exclusively for Zurich S-Bahn trains, the latter also for long-distance traffic. In addition, there is the terminal station of the Sihltal-Zürich-Uetliberg-Bahn (SZU) under the station square to the south. The station parts are connected by the underground shopping arcade Shopville. To the west of the main train station, the tracks extend around four kilometers to Altstetten station.

The main train station was opened in 1847 as the terminus of Switzerland's first railway line from Zurich to Baden, making it one of the oldest railway stations in the country. The station hall, designed by Jakob Friedrich Wanner in Neo-Renaissance style and completed in 1871, took the place of the first buildings. Today, this no longer serves its original purpose after rail traffic was relocated to the adjacent track hall in 1930. The above-ground parts of the main station are listed as cultural assets of national importance. The Museumstrasse underground station went into operation in 1989. A year later, the opening of the S-Bahn service and the SZU station followed. Finally, in 2014, the Löwenstrasse underground station was added.

A cosmos of its own and the daily hub of Zurich.

There is something going on here 365 days a year.

Shops and restaurants are open every day.

There are almost 3,000 train journeys every day with an average of 367,000 passengers.

Zurich main station is the largest train station in Switzerland. It is an important railway junction for trains from home and abroad. You have to be careful if you want to take the Sihltal or Uetliberg Bahn. You have to go underground to do this.
