Zurich main station (Zürich HB for short, also Zurich main station, until 1893 Zurich station) in Zurich is the largest station in Switzerland. The main train station was opened in 1847 as the terminus of Switzerland's first railway line from Zurich to Baden, making it one of the oldest railway stations in the country. The station hall, designed by Jakob Friedrich Wanner in Neo-Renaissance style and completed in 1871, took the place of the first buildings. Today, this no longer serves its original purpose after rail traffic was relocated to the adjacent track hall in 1930. The above-ground parts of the main station are listed as cultural assets of national importance. The Museumstrasse underground station went into operation in 1989. A year later, the opening of the S-Bahn service and the SZU station followed. Finally, in 2014, the Löwenstrasse underground station was added.
