The "Selkesicht" is an excellent vantage point on a rocky outcrop above the Selketal and offers a fantastic view of the Falkenstein Castle HWN 200.The Ackeburg was first mentioned in 1216 as the seat of the Burgmannen of Count von Falkenstein and has been considered abandoned or destroyed since the 14th century. The castle complex, which consisted of a main and outer bailey with a moat and several ramparts, had a 30 m wide main bailey standing on a rocky hillock on the Selkesicht. Above it, towards the highest point of the hill, there was a bailey about 11 m wide and a village. Today parts of the neck moat and cross wall can still be seen at the Burgstall. From the hiking car park on the street "Am Kohlenschacht" in Ballenstedt you can reach the Selkesicht an der Ackeburg via the "Alten Kohlenschacht" HWN 180, the "Falkenweg" and the "Meisdorfer Trift". A shorter but initially very steep path leads from the inn "Zum Falken" in Selketal to the stamping station.
