In 1599 the plague raged and it was vowed to erect a Marian column for salvation. Today's statue, which is stylistically dated to the second half of the 17th century, stands on a column with a composite capital with a winged angel's head.[2] In 1788 a fountain was added around the column, which was solemnly blessed on August 15th. Because of cholera, the vow of 1599 was renewed in 1856. In 1890 the fountain with the Marian column was torn down and rebuilt in a baroque style. The figures of Saint Peter and Saint James by the Augsburg sculptor Sager were added in 1905. In 1974 the fountain, which had suffered damage during the wars, was renewed.
