The Waldensians were a religious lay movement of the 13th/14th century. They were characterized by their way of life in poverty and criticized the wealth of the church.
Exactly 600 years ago - in 1397 - around 100 followers from Steyr were sentenced to death by fire or life imprisonment.
The sculptor Mag. Gerald Brandstötter designed the round sculpture. It depicts the burning of the Waldensians; the female figure symbolizes reconciliation and tolerance.
