The Goldbergsee is one of the most visited local recreation areas between the districts of Neuses and Beiersdorf. The reservoir has an area of 145 hectares and serves the people of Coburg primarily as a flood retention basin. But the lake and the area around it have long since developed into a popular destination for walkers, hikers, cyclists and nature lovers. Views of Callenberg Castle, which sits majestically on a mountain above the lake, the view of the nature reserve “Bird Sanctuary Glender Wiesen” or the idyllic Rückerthäuschen, where the poet Friedrich Rückert spent many happy hours, make a trip an experience. We also recommend the 14 km long “Coburger Meer” circular hiking trail, which leads along Lake Goldbergsee.

You can drive between the railway line and the lake with a direct view of the lake. You should definitely pay attention to pedestrians. The bird watching tower offers a great view.
