St. Marien in Kahleby is a lonely church in the middle between the villages of Füsing and Schaalby. It once belonged to the Guldenholm monastery on the Langsee. Later she came to the St. Johannis monastery in Schleswig. It has been independent since the last century. In the 1970s the parish merged with the parish of Moldenit.

St. Marien was originally a Romanesque church, which was first mentioned in 1192. Already in the 13th century it was considerably enlarged and equipped with a double Gothic cross rib vault in the choir. A new renovation was carried out in 1855, from which the tower in its current form dates from, as well as a donated bell of the latest times and an old 14th century Marienbell.

The first thing you notice is a large cross from the beginning of the 16th century, which represents the cross as a tree of life and is endowed with the symbols of the evangelists, which show how the gospel spreads in all directions. What is striking in the church is the painting from the beginning of our century, which could be preserved over several renovations. Then the pulpit from 1673 stands out, with the help of which the names of the founders can be used to gain a nice insight into the history of the church. Pastor Rodbertus, one of the founders, fell victim to the wars of the time, for example.

The lettering was in Low German, church language until the 17th century. A special treasure of the church is the Johann Daniel Busch organ from 1784, which was excellently restored ten years ago and can be heard at church services and at several concerts a year.
