Buxheim Monastery is a former Carthusian monastery and today is the home of the Salesians of Don Bosco. It is located in Buxheim near Memmingen in Bavaria in Upper Swabia and belongs to the Diocese of Augsburg. The monastery was probably founded around 1100 as a collegiate monastery, given to the Carthusians in 1402 as the Maria Saal monastery and used as such until 1812. From 1548 it was the only imperial charterhouse of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation.
