This relatively small hiking area is very attractive. In a very small space there are dry meadows, heaths, as well as small Minimoore, which originated in the damp valleys. Many different wild forms of flowers, which we also know as cultivated garden flowers, grow there. Even rare insects have found a habitat here and grass snake and common viper are to be found. The nearby Treßsee is a refuge for winter-pulling waterfowl. Benches and tables invite you to linger. A place to slow down. Just be careful and keep your eyes and ears open. On fine days the lark sings here, which is not as "normal" these days as it used to be. Through the dunes you walk on the lizard path, but there are also small intermediate paths that you can integrate with.
How to get to a 4 km long round. Not very far, but very varied.
The whole area has been protected since 1937 and is now part of the large nature conservation project Obere Treenelandschaft. For more info: oberetreenelandschaft.de. Along the inland dunes, the cycle path "Ochsenweg", Excursion Treßsee runs, so that the cyclist can also make a detour and stop at one of the many benches.
Here, the Kielstau and the Bondenau meet to Treßsee and the outflow of the lake leaves the Treene spring. It may not be thought possible: the Lake Treß should probably have been more than 100 acres once. The small town of Großsolt was once a busy fishing village and the lake reached up to the city limits. In the lake one caught game fish e.g. Salmon and thus the fishermen from Großsolt had a bearable income. Through the river regulation of the Kielstau and Bondenau and the land consolidation in the sixties and seventies, the lake silted up and shrank in the course of time to its present size together. The salmon died and the fishing became meaningless.
All the more important and beautiful is that this wonderful landscape of the inland dunes is protected and preserved.
