Hidden in the forest to the north of Rötteln Castle is a ski jump. There are still ramparts and ditches that can be identified in the terrain. There is also a leveled area of about 30x30 meters. There was probably a building here.
Investigations have shown that this redoubt was probably built between March and December 1638 during the Thirty Years' War. It is similar to other well-known ski jumps that were built around the same time (for example the ski jump at Bad Wimpfen).
Since the polygonal rampart is preceded by two bastions to the north and west, it can be assumed that it was built to defend Rötteln Castle.
A small trail now leads across the hill.
