Bike Touring Highlight
Settled since the Paleolithic, once important Celtic settlement. The "city in the river" was expanded in the 13th century by Ludwig II of the austerity to the magnificent residence city of the Wittelsbacher. Ludwig I took up this and in 1863 had the liberation hall of neoclassical style, visible from afar, built in memory of the Napoleonic wars. Worth seeing the 1607 founded Electoral "White Bräuhaus", the oldest white beer brewery in Bavaria, the old town hall, Ludwigsplatz with its Renaissance facades, the ducal castle, the hospital church with Otto Chapel, the former Franciscan monastery with the organ museum, the archaeological museum in the former granary "Herzogkasten", the Liberation Hall on the Michelsberg, very rewarding boat trip to the Danube Gorge and the Weltenburg Abbey, the oldest monastery in Bavaria (founded in 617) with the Asamkirche.
