The Westercamp Museum is a former institution that was founded between 1911 and 1913 at the suggestion of the local scientific association for the preservation of antiquities in Weissenburg and the surrounding area, also known as the Antiquities Association.

The Antiquities Association, founded in November 1904 by the school inspector Peter Stiefelhagen, brings together historians, scholars, dignitaries from Wissembourg and the region, Alsatians and Germans.

The Musée Westercamp exhibits archaeological finds from the area, medieval works of art and documents on the town's history and local history.

It goes back to the private collection of the district director Joseph Philipp von Stichaner and the collections of the Antiquities Association from 1904.

In 1909, the notary Paul Westercamp donated 10,000 marks to buy and renovate historical buildings in the old town, today 2, rue du Musée.

      The museum opened in 1912.

In 2002 the museum had to be closed due to dilapidation and the collections were stored. After the closure of the sub-prefecture, the museum is housed in this building, the former deanery of the abbey church from 1784.

The collection includes antique finds, pictures and objects from local history and many exhibits from the Battle of Weißenburg (1870). One room is decorated with wallpaper from the wallpaper factory Zuber et Cie. A colored relief from 1717 depicts Pumpernickel, a famous jester who entertained people with songs and pranks and was known as the local Bacchus because of his thirst.
