The Cape George Lighthouse is a heritage lighthouse because of its historical, architectural, and community values. The first lighthouse was established in 1861; the present is the third lighthouse built in 1968 on the site, and its position at the top of the bluff enables it to guide vessels through the Northumberland Strait, as well as into St. George’s Bay.
