Hombourg station was inaugurated on October 1895, at the same time as the section of line 38 passing through the Land of Herve. During World War II, the station was requisitioned by Adolf Hitler and became part of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. There were six daily round trips to Aachen in Germany via Hindel, Montzen and Bushausen. This shuttle service was put into operation when the tunnel between Hombourg and Hindel was replaced. The Belgian army had blown up this tunnel in 1940.

The old train station has been nicely restored. However, many trainsets and locomotives are in poor condition. It is an excellent location for photographers insofar as the site can be entered.
