In 1859, the people of Liedberg expressed their wish for their own parish church to the Archbishop of Cologne. However, the first spade was not struck until 1913, and in 1915 the parish was able to celebrate the inauguration of its new parish church, St. Georg. To raise funds for the construction, the people of Liedberg had founded the building association St.-Josephs-Bauverein. On June 6, 1915, the church was consecrated amidst a festively decorated community by Archbishop Felix Cardinal von Hartmann.
