In 1859, the Liedbergers suggested their desire for their own parish church to the Archbishop of Cologne. But it was not until 1913 that the groundbreaking ceremony took place and in 1915 the parish was able to celebrate the inauguration of its new parish church of St. George. The Liedbergers had founded the St. Joseph's building association to raise the building funds. On June 6, 1915, the church was consecrated by Archbishop Felix Cardinal von Hartmann in the midst of a festively decorated congregation.
