Step back in time (for free!) at Chester's beautifully laid-out Roman Gardens, which lie between the old city walls and the River Dee.
None of the fragments of Roman history on display in the gardens actually came from this site - they were found at the Roman legionary fortress of Deva within the city walls. It's an astonishing collection, including fragments from some of the most important military buildings, including the main baths and the legionary headquarters.

After visiting the amphitheater, a visit to the Roman Gardens is worthwhile. They are decorated with ancient Roman artifacts and statues that provide a glimpse into Roman art and culture.
The gardens are a tranquil setting and offer a great place to relax and enjoy a picnic after a long day of sightseeing in Chester.
