There have been bears in Droyßig for as long as 1870 years. Around 1862, Prince Hugo von Schönburg-Waldenburg had a kennel built in the moat. A pair of bears lived here, whose numerous offspring were distributed to the zoos of Europe around 1900.
After reunification, the enclosure was redesigned and in 2003 two bear cubs, Aiko and Toni, moved into it. These meanwhile large bears can be admired here.
