The Old Town Hall Square is dominated by the ashlar building of the Old Town Hall, one of the most important architectural monuments in Dinkelsbühl, both in terms of its former function and its urban development position. It was probably originally a Staufian ministerial residence, on whose foundations a residential tower was built at the beginning of the 14th century. Together with the area of the Carmelite monastery, it forms the nucleus of the town. Today, the Old Town Hall houses the tourist information office and the House of Dinkelsbühl History - of war and peace. Opposite is the Lion Fountain, a symbol of imperial city self-confidence, and the choir of St. George's Cathedral. Together with the oldest city gate, the Wörnitz Gate from the 13th century, it is one of the most beautiful squares in Dinkelsbühl and the annual scene of the "handover of the town" to the Swedes at the Kinderzeche.

The octagonal Lion Fountain stands opposite the House of History. Heraldic ornaments can be seen on its iron plates. The stone fountain column with a lion dates back to the 16th century and is a symbol of the imperial city's self-confidence.
