The sculpture gives meaning to the open and seemingly "empty" space of the long line of sight to the dike. For the passer-by, the sculpture initially appears to have nothing to do with its surroundings; she seems alienating. Until suddenly it matches the shape of the line of sight from a single vantage point. Passing this midpoint, the image of this almost tangible space disappears just as quickly as it appeared.

In its form, the sculpture references the first "vertical statements" on the sea floor that guided land reclamation and design. The landmarks literally set the direction for building the country and the city.
