Visitor center De Trekvogel is Almere's oldest building and a good starting point for nature lovers to get to know the surrounding nature reserves better.
In the building you can see stuffed birds and animals living in the Lepelaarplassen nature reserve, read background information and watch a documentary.

The surrounding nature reserves are known for their bird-rich surroundings. The Lepelaarplassen are home to a colony of cormorants and spoonbills come here regularly to forage. More than 300 different bird species have been spotted in this area. Around 65 species breed here, including bitterns, little grebes, spotted crake, kingfishers and purple herons.
The three observation huts offer a good overview of this bird-rich meadow area.

Visitor center De Trekvogel is open on Saturdays and Sundays (and during school holidays) from 12pm to 5pm. From November 1st to March 1st, the visitor center is open from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The current building is outdated and is due to be demolished in the near future. After that, it is planned to build a new building where the exhibition will be housed again. (Information as of June 2022)
