Cornalba takes its name from the white limestone rock (from the Latin "cornus" rock and "albus" white) that overlooks the town and represents its identity. The town is located at an average altitude of 893 m a.s.l. and has about 300 inhabitants.

The municipality of Cornalba is recently established, even if the history of this village has its roots in the feudal era.Cornalba and in particular the Gardati locality constituted in the Middle Ages one of the most important hubs of rest and trade along the Via Mercatorum, the oldest communication route along the Brembana and Seriana Valleys. The caravans that passed through here from Bergamo then continued on to the fortified village of Cornello del Tasso. Some original features of this important communication route remain in the hamlet of Passoni (it is assumed that this name derives precisely from the Tasso family).

The village of Cornalba has also been the subject of tragic events linked to the Bergamo Resistance struggle. In 1944 fascist gangs exterminated and tortured several partisans.A machine gun was placed by the fascists on the bell tower of Cornalba to kill the partisans who took refuge on Monte Alben. To keep alive the moral legacy of the partisan struggle, every year, in collaboration with the GL Association of Bergamo, the fallen of the armed struggle are commemorated in the chapel dedicated to them in the churchyard.
