      Örtlturm

The tower was built in the middle of the 15th century as a defensive tower on the southeast corner of the city fortifications with city walls on both sides. An external staircase led to the first floor and the battlement on the southern city wall.

In the 17th century, the tower was made usable for residential purposes. An external chimney was added for a cooking area on the first floor and for a tiled stove on the second floor of the tower. The defensive loopholes were enlarged to create small window openings. An extension was also built between the tower and the southern city wall to serve as a stable. There was no more room in it than for a cow. But only very few of these small farms have survived in the Upper Palatinate and in all of northern Bavaria; the battlement in this area was removed.

In the middle of the 19th century, a building with a ground floor and upper floor with a gable roof was built as an extension to the city wall. A barn was also built using wood. The property continued to be used for small agricultural purposes. The tower has been used by the public since the general renovation in 2009.
The municipal music classes have been able to use four rooms since then, and the old walls will be used to play piano, cello and guitar, among other instruments. Wall panels were specially installed for better acoustics. And because the renovated tower is part of the "European Mile" project, the Czech twin town of Radotin will be able to present itself there in the near future.
The tower renovation cost around 270,000 euros in total. The town only had to pay around ten percent of this itself. Funding came from the Upper Palatinate government from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Bavarian State Foundation, the Upper Palatinate district, the State Office for Monument Preservation and the Schwandorf district, among others.

The Örtlturm on the southwestern city wall of Burglengenfeld is a former defensive tower of the late medieval city fortifications. Today it serves as a meeting place.
