Chapel of Santa Maria alla Vittoria. Erected in 1441, the chapel serves as a reminder of the place where the Battle of Anghiari was fought (29 June 1440).

The tabernacle is known to citizens as The Majesty of the Gallows, as it was the place where capital executions took place.

On the right pillar we read the year 1440 with the community's insignia, on the other there is the coat of arms of Ranieri di Giuliano Forese, Florentine vicar of Anghiari during the period of the battle.

In 1906 the current commemorative plaque was placed inside the chapel.

From here you have a beautiful view from below of Anghiari and the road that crosses it. From this place, every 29 June the Palio della Vittoria foot race starts, the historical re-enactment of the battle of 1440. The race takes place along the right, uphill, on a route of 1440 metres, and ends in Piazza Baldaccio. The race is characteristic because each competitor can hinder their opponents with holds and pushes. The historical setting is very beautiful with the parade of nobles, men of arms, musicians, flag-wavers and commoners in medieval clothes. An absolutely must-see event.
