After the Santa Maria del Montnegre oak, this is the thickest oak measured in Catalonia. Both the rabassa and some of the main branches are covered by insect species protected by Catalan legislation, such as the spectacular escanyapolls
(Lucanus cervus).
The shade of this beautiful tree is used as a softener for the flock of sheep in Can Pla del Montseny, and the shepherd still uses the large salt stone under the tree to put blocks of salt for the cattle. This same stone is commonly used to rest
peasants, walkers and shepherds.
