This impressive monument was built in the 19th century and honors the life and martyrdom of Joan of Arc, the French heroine who led the army against the English during the Hundred Years' War. From the esplanade where the monument is located, you can admire the breathtaking view of the Seine valley and the city of Rouen. You can also discover the Notre-Dame de Bonsecours basilica, a neo-Gothic church adjacent to the monument. The monument is open to the public and free.

In 1868 it was decided to erect a monument to the glory of the heroine. The space is lacking in Rouen, it is being built at Bonsecours. The 2-meter statue is placed in the main Renaissance-style aedicula, the dome is surmounted by a gilded statue of Saint Michael, the two small buildings on either side housing statues of Saint Margaret and Saint Catherine. The monument was inaugurated in 1892.
