This route on the old railway path is very nice to drive and the landscape is a dream!

The cycle path is paved from Bad Berneck to Bischofsgrün, with a length of around twelve kilometres and an elevation gain of 220 metres. Only short sections run in the immediate vicinity of the B 303 federal road, so the impressions of the White Main predominate.

One of the most romantic branch lines in the Fichtel Mountains ran from Neuenmarkt via Himmelkron to Bad Berneck until 1993, ending in Bischofsgrün. In the 1970s, traffic increasingly shifted to the road, so that passenger transport was discontinued in May 1974. Nevertheless, the line was retained for freight traffic, as companies such as Frenzelit or the Küfner hard stone works, which produced railway ballast, regularly required freight trains. But here too, transport increasingly shifted to the road in the early 1990s.
When a section of the railway embankment in the area between Blumenau and Lanzendorf slipped as a result of a thunderstorm in July 1992, this was a welcome opportunity to officially close the line to Bad Berneck on December 31, 1993.
