Staithes is a picturesque, small coastal town, located in a bay surrounded by cliffs. The houses of the village are built on a slope, and the narrow streets wind up the steep coast. Picturesque the river meanders Staithes Beck meanders through the village until it flows into the bay in the North Sea. In short: Staithes is a town like in a picture book and definitely worth a visit.

Staithes is a gorgeous fishing village with a cosy harbour, a great location for geologist and fossil hunters and home of a community of well-known artists. Staithes has numerous narrow streets and passageways. One of these, Dog Loup, with a width of just 18 inches (45.7cm), is claimed to be the narrowest alley in the world. From 1745–46, Staithes' most famous resident, James Cook, worked in Staithes as a grocer's apprentice where he first gained his passion for the sea. The village was home to a group of twenty to thirty artists known as the "Staithes group" or the "Northern Impressionists", inspired by other impressionists such as Monet, Cézanne, and Renoir.
