Located in Plaça des Born, it is surrounded by several palaces and important buildings in the old town. Its function is to commemorate the Turkish disaster that occurred in the city on July 9, 1558, when the troops of Mustafá Piali entered Ciutadella. The obelisk recalls the strategic importance of the island of Menorca in the Mediterranean. Every Friday and Saturday a market is held at the foot of the obelisk and traders occupy almost the entire square.
