The Gothic cathedral has a three-aisled nave with four bays, arranged in a basilica form on three floors. It consists of lower arcades open to the side aisles, a triforium with a walkway above, and a towering clerestory zone with large windows.

The western end is formed by a double-towered façade, in front of which protrudes a portal. The transept remains within the line of the side aisle walls and does not protrude beyond them. Adjacent to this is a choir bay, which terminates in a staggered choir to the east.

All of the cathedral's windows have pointed arches. Their reveals are extended both inside and out and divided into multiple stepped profiles. In the upper section, they display delicate tracery in typical Gothic forms such as circles, trefoils, quatrefoils, and pentagons. Depending on their width, the windows are divided into pointed arches by several stone bars.

The cathedral was first built around 511 and has undergone many renovations since then. 1251 - 1350 expanded in the Gothic style. Inside you will find a large organ with 6,000 pipes, various graves of well-known people, and glass ornaments in the church windows.
Admission to the church is free, but 2 euros are charged to visit the crypt, which is worth seeing.

Former abbey church in the Gothic-Burgundian style with a Romanesque crypt, the underground remains of a three-story rotunda built around 1000 under Abbot William of Volpiano and partially collapsed in 1271.
In an intimate setting, discover the Martyrdom of Saint Bénigne with a floor of colored marble and beautiful carved capitals. The church became a cathedral in 1792, succeeding the church of Saint-Etienne.
During the Revolution, it was looted and completely stripped of everything except the 18th-century organ. The cathedral underwent two major restorations, the last of which was carried out by Charles Suisse in 1884. In 1896, a 93-meter-high spire was added to the building, at the base of which are eight statues representing Burgundian glories.

Take a step back to also see the decorated tiled roof of this church.
