Officially called St Botolph's Church, the church is better known as the "Boston Stump" thanks to its 266 foot (81.3 m) spire. The spire can be seen for miles around, even from Norfolk on a clear day. Historically, the spire was used as a landmark by sailors.

The church is officially called St Botolph's Church of the Parish of Boston, but is known as the Boston Stump. What makes the church so special is its 83 meter high church tower, whose top is an octagon. As the church spire towers over everything and you can see it from afar, it is also called a lighthouse.
