Coastrider

I'm a cyclist with a garage full of bikes and I enjoy riding on all terrains. I've worked in outdoor education for many years and lead some cycling tours with Morocco being my main focus. I've also worked as a Bikeability Instructor in schools in Reading and Oxfordshire which has been fabulously fun and a brilliant way of getting children to learn about cycling on the road. Living on the north side of Reading gives me the opportunity to spend my ride time exploring the Chiltern hills and the Ridgeway. If you haven't ventured over this way it's a beautiful place to ride on or off road.

This years early retirement has opened up the possibility of doing some bigger tours and I plan on riding the UK coastline during spring 2022, 4500+miles and 3 months riding is a good start to retirement!

I've only made my Coastride UK tour visible to the public but it's divided into coastline sections like South Coast England or Northern Ireland. Just contact me if you would like access to them.

I have a simple website with more details of the planning and bike set up of the Coastride UK tour. If you want to see what went into it visit: coastrideuk.co.uk

Enjoy your riding wherever you are.

Hello cycling chums it's taken a few days to really feel at home and I have still have the desire every morning to get up and out riding.

Firstly thank you all again for your messages and the many that continue to arrive. I really enjoyed writing the Komoot journal as it also helped me remember the day

Burnham on Crouch has the only foot ferry crossing on the River Crouch, it runs 6 days a week except...you guessed it Monday. Re route.

Luckily I did find that out last night while reviewing today's route but it ment a not so nice detour around the only crossing point at Battlesbridge followed by a cross

Everything revolved around the foot ferry at Point Clear on the River Colne. The website still showed yesterday's statement that it was not running because of high winds and I tried and tried the office number but no one would pick up the phone. I headed to a very busy Clacton on Sea with Komoot constantly

For a Coastrider there's not much coast involved in today's ride down the Lincolnshire edge of the Wash.

Leaving Skegness Komoot plotted a path that crossed and re crossed the A52 which isn't a bad road but does carry all the heavy traffic.

My route passed through some wonderfully named villages with

The first few miles past the power station and industrial areas isn't really designed for cyclist but as I got closer to Grimsby a well thoughtout cycle infrastructure turned up which ran along

Norman greeted me this morning at breakfast. A wonderful doggy good morning from a proper shaggy mutt. His favourite pastime is to pop into the camping field next door and steal the shoes of the campers. He's a truly loveable and rascally dog.

Last night's Royal Hotel in Whitby is the destination of hundreds of coach trips from all of the UK and the whole place was packed with lively and chatty oldies. The little seaside town of Seaham has been put on the map by the sculpture of Tommy, the forlorn image of a soldier worn down by war. It's a masterpiece from any angle.

I spent a while longer in Berwick than planned this morning as the bike shop mechanic didn't start until 10am although the shop opens at 8.30. It gave me time to wander around and look at a few more pictures and views on the Lowry trail.

So the mystery noise is the Hope hub free body which is worn and
