College of Essen with monastery garden

This domain has grown around the originally 17th-century Rouwmoershoeve. Father Frans Godts founded a monastery there in 1908 for recovering Redemptorist Fathers returning from mission areas such as Belgian Congo. Soon after, a neo-Gothic school was added to the monastery: the foundation for the current secondary and primary school of the Eucharistic Heart. The school complex is surrounded by a monastery garden, orchards, forests and extensive agricultural land. In the park you come across small landscape and heritage elements such as a cemetery, a chapel and a Lourdes cave or a pond with a picturesque bridge.
Kempens Landschap bought the park from the Redemptorist Fathers in 2013. Since then, they have managed this green area and the existing heritage elements.
