On April 12, 1945, US troops reach the village of Bornum am Elm. The day before, the biggest tragedy of the last days of the war in the region had occurred in Langeleben, US low-flying aircraft had killed 35 orphans and 18 adults due to a mix-up. The children and two adults are buried here, a place that gives you goosebumps and makes you think.
