Official name: 'Sanctuary of the Madonna del Caravaggio al Buso', because it is dedicated to the Madonna del Caravaggio and because it is built above a high natural ravine (the 'buso vecio').

What is striking about this humble little temple and its bell tower is their secluded and solitary location, hidden and almost forgotten: they emerge unexpectedly at the bottom of the verdant Val Frenzena, between two steep rock faces, immersed in the woods, 70 meters below the bridge connecting Gallio to Stoccareddo.

History. In the spring of 1829, Fra' Giovanni Battista Casera, a Franciscan hermit, returning from one of his many pilgrimages, found himself stranded here due to a heavy storm that prevented him from crossing the stream and the ravine. Following this tragic episode, at his request, a bridge was built in 1834 to connect the two banks, as well as a small church as a rest stop for travelers and a place of worship for the Madonna. He himself spent the rest of his days as a hermit in that building. The site quickly became a pilgrimage destination. It was destroyed by bombing during World War I and rebuilt in 1927.
