This former railway line was part of the Hamburg-Venloer Bahn, a national historical railway connection in north-west Germany that was part of the transcontinental railway project "Paris-Hamburger-Bahn". Today it connects the cities of Wesel, Dorsten and Haltern am See over a distance of around 40 kilometers. However, the railway line between Dorsten-Hervest and Lippramsdorf has not yet been converted into a cycle path.
