Before World War II, Catholic families were cared for by the parish of Ruthe near Sarstedt. Many displaced persons from the German eastern territories and evacuees from the Aachen area came to Pattensen after 1945, and the parish of St. Maria was founded. It consists of the towns of Pattensen, Harkenbleck, Hiddestorf, Hüpede, Koldingen, Oerie, Ohlendorf, Reden and Vardegötzen-Thiedenwiese.
