    The Baroque Church of Santa Caterina stands on the site of the previous construction of San Secondo della Torre, a small building of the 11th century, so named for its proximity to the Red Tower (identified by tradition as the prison where the saint was imprisoned , for his martyrdom, along with his friend Calogero). The old factory was attached to the Benedictine convent of San Secondo until 1555, when it was handed over by agreement to the Servite Fathers of Mary, whose convent in the hamlet of San Marco, with its church dedicated to Santa Caterina, had been destroyed. In 1604, under the pontificate of Clement VII, the Benedictine convent of San Secondo and its church became part of the ecclesiastical benefits of the Mauritian Order and assumed the title of commendam. L' The Order of Mauritius entrusted the church to the Servite Fathers and decided in 1732 to threaten this ruin in all its parts and make any restoration impossible, to demolish it to its foundations and rebuild it. Construction of the new church began years later and ended in early 1773, built to designs by GB Ferroggio of Vercelli by the impresario GB Piazza and dedicated to Santa Caterina - in homage to the Serviti fathers - and to other saints: San Secondo and the Sette Santi Founders of the Servants of Mary. The new church was consecrated on April 26, 1773 by Mgr. Caisotti and dedicated on September 14, 1818 by Mons. Antonio Faa di Bruno. From 1850 to 1967 it was entrusted to the Observant Friars Minor of the San Tommaso family, then to the Oblates of San Giuseppe until 2000 when it was handed over to the diocesan clergy.
