If you look north at this point, you can see an old Landwehr wall. The rampart, which has been preserved throughout, used to protect the valuable farmland from the numerous wild animals from the neighboring manorial forest around the hunting lodge. In the area around the castle, large animals such as red deer, fallow deer and wild boar, which were of interest to the stately hunt, were particularly well cared for. The sensitive cultivated areas, especially to the east of Fürstenallee, therefore had to be shielded by a wall from the hungry mouths of red deer, fallow deer and wild boar. Deer browsing and destruction of the cultivated areas by stepping and burrowing spots should be curbed in this way.

In order to achieve an even better barrier effect, the wall was probably planted with an impenetrable hedge of typical thorn bushes such as hawthorn, sloe and dog rose. Hornbeams and hazel bushes were also used for this. Today this former hedge has grown through. Nevertheless, the old hedge structure on the wall, which has meanwhile outgrown, can be recognized by some bizarre-looking trees with gnarled rootstocks and multi-stem growth. However, the canopy dominates mighty old oaks and, further along, closely spaced hornbeams.

Due to the historical use as a hunting landscape and the undisturbed nature of the military training area, the Senne region is still very rich in game today. This is evidenced by the high number of kills in the region. On average, around 800-1,000 fallow deer have been killed in recent years! The numbers for the red deer are about 200 pieces per year. In wild boar, the number of shots fluctuates between 70 and 200 pieces. The fluctuations in wild boar populations can be explained by changing weather conditions during the rearing period of the piglets in winter.
