A Bodden is a lagoon, especially on the Baltic Sea coast (particularly in Vorpommern and Mecklenburg). The word comes from Low German and means "ground" or "bottom", because the water is very shallow there.
Bodden waters have a lower salt content (brackish water) than the open sea due to inflowing freshwater and have no significant wave action. The word "lagoon", on the other hand, is used worldwide for such shallow waters – often also in warmer or tropical regions.
But regardless, a fantastic view in a remarkable environment.
