Construction began on July 13, 1878, and the fort was handed over on August 29, 1882, after a delay of more than a year.
In 1895 the factory was named after the late General Karl von Orff, who had proven himself very well in the war of 1870/71.
The strengthening of the fort lasted from October 15, 1889 to May 14, 1892. In 1889/1891 the internal connecting batteries were built. In 1896, a left outer connection battery followed, and there was no counterpart on the right.
