Ben More via A' Chioch Ridge

Alternative approach to Ben More, with A' Chioch reached either by ascending Beinn Fhada or perhaps Beinn nan Gabhar. The descent is easy enough, with the odd bit of simple scrambling allowing the majority of the crest of the ridge to be followed. There is significant exposure to the north, and a bypass path lower down for those without the head for heights. However, the more difficult and technical terrain awaits the final ascent up Ben More itself - scrambling experience is a significant help, not clear for route finding on terrain that is steep, rocky, and can be loose. Preferable in ascent than descent, for that reason. Fantastic, and well-earned, views from the top when you finally make it.

This is a great way to approach Ben More. Be prepared for a proper Scottish day out. It's long. There are various smaller summits to visit on the way. The ridge from A'Chioch is the main event bringing you up close to the summit of Ben More. Do it on a rare dry day on Mull.
