The Hösbach enclosure consists of two structures (the 1,380-m-long West enclosure in Goldbach and Hösbach and the 719-m-long East enclosure in Hösbach) along the A3 federal highway, which serve to protect the neighboring communities from noise.
In 1988 it was decided to build the enclosure in connection with an expansion of the A3. On August 4, 1998, the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony took place, partial commissioning was in 2003, and in 2005 all lanes were open to traffic. During construction, the Aschaff, which ran alongside the route, was also renatured. The lighting is provided by daylight, the original 1600 clear windows had to be partially modified after the changing light triggered epileptic seizures in drivers. The Goldbach exit is located within the west enclosure. Solar cells with an output of up to 2600 kW are located on the concrete structure. The annual maintenance costs for the enclosure are between €300,000 and €400,000.
