Tips

  • The foundation stone was laid by Pastor G.B. Eekwielens was on August 29, 1923.

The Archbishop Msgr. H. van de Wetering was warmly received in Heino on October 6, 1924. He spent the night in the parsonage. The dedication ceremonies on October 7, 1924 started at 7 o'clock in the morning. At 10 am the Archbishop, assisted by many clergy from surrounding places, celebrated a pontifical high mass. The church was packed. The former Heinoer J. Hooglugt gave a sermon based on the Bible text “Blessed are those who live in this House”. The Blessed Sacrament was transferred from the old to the new church in a solemn procession. In December 1925 the church council drew up the financial balance. The total construction, furnishing and labor costs amounted to more than 213,000 guilders!

After five difficult years of war, Heino was liberated in April 1945. During the liberation on April 12, the church, school, parish house and sexton's home were affected by war violence. The spire and slate roof were severely damaged by shell hits. The Deventer architect J. Haket ruled that demolition was the only option. The ceiling, vaults, stained glass windows, sacristy, bell tower and clockwork had also suffered significant damage. However, the church was restored. By April 1946 the work was largely completed. The repair had cost more than 42,500 guilders. The “Theresia, Henricus and Maria” bells, stolen by the Germans in 1943, were replaced by new bells after the war. The bells consecrated by the Dean of Zwolle were hung in the tower in August 1949.
