Rugova was buried in Pristina on January 26, 2006, to the great sympathy of the population. The funeral service was attended by the Presidents of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Montenegro, Swiss Federal Councilor and Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey, Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha and EU Secretary General Javier Solana.
