The Gulf of Chiuni is part of the Vicolais coastline, a coast which was very frequented between the 16th and 18th centuries by Barbary pirates. Due to the Turkish threat, the Genoese had coastal towers built there in the 16th century at the expense of the communities and pievi of Paomia, Revinda and Salogna.
