The Guthrie Theater was founded in 1963 by Sir Tyrone Guthrie as an alternative to Broadway. Its current home is a midnight-blue building in Minneapolis’s historic Mill District. The building includes a cantilevered walkway that extends toward the Mississippi River. The bridge is open to the public and does not require a theater ticket to visit. It functions as an indoor observation deck that extends 178 feet from the building toward the Mississippi River. As you walk or bike by the Guthrie Theater on the National Grand Rounds Scenic Byway, you will see the walkway directly above you.
