This stream is the Schandtauber. It is a 13.8 km long tributary of the Tauber, rises south of Gammesfeld on the Hohenlohe Plain and meanders as a trickle to Bettenfeld in Bavaria. There, water from a karst spring emerges from an underground cave system and supplies the Schandtauber with most of its water. The stream now flows through the untouched Schandtauber valley, past several mills, before flowing into the Tauber at the Schmelzmühle below Rothenburg.

The Schandtaubertal, which stretches southwest from Rothenburg to Bettenfeld, is a piece of untouched nature. Here you can really enjoy the peace and quiet and, at the same time, learn interesting things on the water management educational trail, from geology to historical hydropower use.
