Looking at the dolmens which stand at the exit of Carmaret-sur-Mer, the place seems to have been inhabited since 2,500 years BC. In 1776, there were still around 600 menhirs.
The story took another turn in the 17th century when Vauban fortified the city to protect the entrance to the port of Brest.
Today, the defense tower still stands proudly. On the port, lively restaurants in summer invite you to relax.
