The dam was built between 1963 and 1966 and has since dammed the Innerste river. Behind the dam, which is about 35 meters high and 750 meters long, is an artificial lake that is up to three kilometers long. The reservoir is a popular destination for nature lovers.

The Innerstetalsperre is a dam of the Innerste, which is located in the northwest of the Harz Mountains between Langelsheim, Wolfshagen and Lautenthal. It was built between 1963 and 1966 and belongs to the Harzwasserwerke. Their purpose is drinking water supply, flood protection, low water elevation and power generation.

The Innerste Dam offers many opportunities for sporting activities.
You can walk around it, by bike or rollerblades and many water sports are possible and permitted. A wonderful local recreation area!
Culinary delights are provided in the middle of the dam and an ice cream van is parked at the dam wall during the season.
The path around the Innerste Dam is asphalted and ideal for cycling.
There are also many opportunities to turn off into the forest from the dam and extend your tour.
Or you can continue on the Innerste cycle path to Lautenthal or Langelsheim.
