Rocca delle Caminate

Studies carried out over time place the origin of the Rocca delle Caminate around the year 1000. It was probably built within a pre-existing village or on a Roman fortress. Some hypotheses concern the attribution of the name: the first connects it to the configuration of the walkway that accompanies the battlements of the upper perimeter, while another refers to the existence of rooms equipped with fireplaces or hearths. Certainly suggestive is that which derives the name from the existence in the area of ovens equipped with fireplaces to produce building lime starting from the limestone rock called "spungone". However, since 1177 the name Rigone Caminate appears in some documents.

The strategic position of the castle, from which the valleys of the Rabbi and Bidente rivers can be seen at a glance, and whose military vocation can be seen in its most ancient structure, has handed it over the centuries to a succession of troubled events, in which important families try their hand....
In 1870, as if to conclude the long cycle of destruction and reconstruction witnessed over the centuries, a violent earthquake that struck Romagna seriously damaged the building which in the following fifty years, also due to neglect, was reduced to a pile of rubble .

It was restored in 1927, as a gift to Mussolini, rebuilding the feudal lord's palace and restoring the patrol walkway to efficiency.

It is currently owned by the Province of Forlì-Cesena, managed by AGESCI.
